How the Broken Heart Yoga Journey Began

Welcome to Broken Heart Yoga.

My name is Tanya Dunne, the creator and original broken heart yogi and a yoga instructor. Broken Heart Yoga started in the “crabby corner” at the Sweet Tea Yoga studio in Peachtree City, Ga.

Broken Heart Yoga was born after finding my way to the back row corner of heated power yoga week-after-week. The hottest corner in the heated room, where I would work through my uncertainties, anxieties, and the emotional rollercoaster of life.

Community and friendship grew, and the back row corner became lovingly referred to as the “Crabby Corner.” Through my Crabby Corner experiences, I bonded with an amazing human where we shared our broken heart—experiences. Let me be clear, not broken hearts like a love break-up… well, maybe a little of that happened along our journey, but beating in your chest, heart issues.

Through our friendship, long walks, and health issues, I started to realize that broken hearts come in all shapes and sizes and take different journeys. The fact is we all have broken hearts and are grieving something in some way. Broken hearts can take the shape through relationships, cardiac challenges, chronic illnesses, grief, divorce, anxieties, trauma, depression, you name it.

What helps… yoga. I’ve learned that healing doesn’t happen without some form of movement, physical and mental. Will yoga cure your broken heart? Nope, but what it will do is let you know you’re not alone. Through yoga, meditation and breathing exercises, you might rediscover a version of you that you didn’t know existed.

Our purpose is to help each other through whatever challenges your are facing today. We must create our own peace when things seem crappy, and by doing so, it resonates to those around you. Believe me, I know it can be difficult to maintain peace during uncertainty, but it’s something that you must practice every day, every hour, every minute.

Broken Heart Yoga’s mission is to inspire you to do the best you can to smile, breathe and just keep moving forward. Remember: you’re not alone.

What I Believe

Below are my core brand values , which are the beliefs that I stand for personally and in my business. They serve as the compass that guide my actions, behaviors, and decision-making process. They sum up who I am and what I hope to give to you.

Why should you care? Because I believe that yoga has the power to change lives-- your life. With yoga and healing at my core, I live and share these values:

Fun and Friendly

I don’t take myself too seriously. I love to have fun and laugh. I am all about building relationships and an inclusive community. I create a culture of warmth, respect, and belonging, where everyone feels safe and welcome. I believe in giving back and regularly support causes near to my heart.

Focused and Driven

Like you, I am focused on my fitness. I do yoga to close the gap between where am now and where I want to be mentally, physically and spiritually.. While I'm all about training the body, I also train the mind. Through meditation and breathing exercises, , I help you develop a mental edge on and maintain focus when it matters most.

Chill and Zen

I work hard… really hard, but I also take time to chill out because you don’t get stronger with more workouts. You get stronger with recovering from your workout. I believe it’s crucial to take time to breathe, find your zen, do yoga, meditate and journal to reduce your risk of injury, increase mobility, and feel restored.
